How we do it

Area Rugs, the way the fiber calls for.

Oriental and wool rugs are not carpet. Dyes bleed, fringes tangle, and backing can be damaged by the wrong amount of water. We identify the fiber and construction first, then choose the process. Every rug is inspected before and after.

You have two options. We can clean the rug on-site in your home, which suits most synthetic and many wool rugs and is the quicker, less expensive route. Or the rug can come to our Carmel shop for a full wash, which is the right call for valuable, heavily soiled or pet-contaminated rugs. We pick up and deliver.

On-site, in your home

$1.00 / sq ft

Dry soil removal, pre-treatment and hot-water extraction on your floor, with fringe detailing. Good for synthetics and most wool rugs that just need a thorough cleaning. Done on the same visit as your carpet.

In our Carmel shop

$2.50 / sq ft

The full six-step process below: inspection, badgering, pile brush or vacuum, wash, rinse and controlled drying, and a final inspection. The right choice for Oriental, silk, antique, heavily soiled or pet-affected rugs. Drop off at the shop, or ask about pickup and delivery.

Step by step

What happens on the visit.

  1. 01

    Inspection

A technician hand-inspects the rug for color bleeding, tears, dye fading, abrasion and pet contamination, and records it all on an inspection sheet before cleaning starts.

  2. 02

    Badgering

The RugBadger delivers over 40,000 harmonic vibrations per minute into the back of the rug, shaking loose the dry soil and grit trapped in the foundation and between the fibers.

  3. 03

    Pile brush or vacuum

Depending on the rug type, the pile is brushed or vacuumed to lift out everything the badgering shook loose.

  4. 04

    Wash

Each rug is washed one at a time with the method suited to its fiber and dyes, fringes included.

  5. 05

    Rinse and dry

Excess moisture is extracted and a rinse returns the fibers to their natural state. Rugs dry completely in a climate-controlled room with air circulation.

  6. 06

    Final inspection

The rug is inspected again, rolled and wrapped in protective packaging for delivery or pickup. We also leave you a spot out bottle for touch-ups, and we refill it free the next time we're out.

Questions

Common questions

Should my rug be cleaned in-home or in the shop?

Synthetic rugs and most wool rugs in decent shape do well in-home. Oriental, silk, antique, very soiled or pet-contaminated rugs should come to the shop, where we can dust, wash and dry them properly. We will tell you which during the walk-through or when you call.

How long does shop cleaning take?

Usually one to two weeks, depending on the rug and how many are ahead of it. Heavily soiled or odor-affected rugs can take longer because they are washed and dried more than once.

Do you pick up and deliver?

Yes, across our service area. Ask the office when you call and we will add it to the schedule.

Can you remove pet urine from a rug?

Usually. Urine in a rug needs a full wash to flush it out of the foundation, which is why pet-affected rugs go to the shop.

Ready when you are.

Call the office and we'll find a time that works. Most homes are cleaned in a single visit.
