How we do it

Pet Stains & Odor, the way the fiber calls for.

Pet stains seem to be an unavoidable part of having a pet, and they are among the hardest problems in carpet cleaning because the mess does not stay on the surface. Urine soaks through the fiber into the backing, the pad and sometimes the subfloor. Cleaning the top hides it until the first humid day.

We locate the affected areas, then decide how deep the problem goes. Light spots are treated topically. Heavier contamination needs sub-surface treatment that reaches the pad, and in some cases we replace a section of the pad and seal the subfloor. In extreme cases, replacing the pad and the carpet is the only remedy. We will tell you which one you have before you pay for the wrong one.

We do not cover the problem with perfumes. Odor is removed at the source with enzyme and odor treatments that are safe for your home and your pets. Most pet stains and odors are fully removable. The ones that are not, we say so up front.

Pet spots wick back more than any other kind as the carpet dries, which is why every customer leaves with a spot out bottle. Lift the spot off the fiber tips when it's convenient, and if a guaranteed spot returns within 30 days, we come back and touch it up at no charge.

Step by step

What happens on the visit.

  1. 01

    Locate

We find every affected area, including the ones you cannot see, so nothing is missed.

  2. 02

    Assess depth

Surface spot, into the pad, or down to the subfloor. The depth decides the treatment, and we explain it before starting.

  3. 03

    Treat the source

Topical treatment for light spots. Sub-surface treatment and extraction for anything that reached the pad. Enzyme and odor treatment throughout.

  4. 04

    Clean and check

Full hot-water extraction, spot dyeing if urine stripped the color, and a walk-through to confirm the odor is gone. We also leave you a spot out bottle for touch-ups, and we refill it free the next time we're out.

Questions

Common questions

Can you really get the smell out?

In most cases, yes, because we treat the pad and not just the fiber. Severe, long-term contamination that has soaked the subfloor may need the pad replaced and the subfloor sealed, and we will tell you that up front.

Are your products safe for pets and kids?

Yes. We use enzyme and odor treatments that are safe once dry, and we recommend keeping pets off the carpet until it is fully dry.

Why did the stain come back after I cleaned it?

Because the urine in the pad wicked back up through the fiber as it dried. Surface cleaning cannot reach the pad. Sub-surface treatment can.

Can you fix the yellow spot where the color is gone?

Often. If urine has bleached the dye out of the fiber, cleaning will not bring it back, but spot dyeing can. See our dyeing and color repair service.
