How we do it
Carpet Cleaning, the way the fiber calls for.
Most carpet does not need replacing. It needs the soil pulled out of it, not pushed further in. When vacuuming stops making a difference, that is the sign: the soil has worked below the tips of the fiber where a vacuum cannot reach it.
Our technicians are IICRC-certified and use the method the carpet manufacturers specify in their warranties: hot-water extraction, also called steam cleaning. It is the method recommended by the Carpet and Rug Institute and the EPA, and it is the one that rotary bonnet machines and rented units cannot match. We start with pre-treatment of the fibers, agitate, then extract with truck-mounted equipment hot enough to release soil that other methods leave behind.
Carpet is damp to the touch when we leave and dries in 12 to 24 hours.
Spots that will not come out with normal cleaning are quoted separately under Specialty Stain Removal. Color loss from bleach or sun fading is not a stain and cleaning will not fix it; see Dyeing & Color Repair. Open seams, burns and pet damage are handled under Carpet Repair.
Step by step
What happens on the visit.
-
01
Walk-through and spot inspection
Your technician walks through the house with you, looks at every spot you point out, and tells you what to expect before anything is touched.
-
02
Pre-treatment
Traffic lanes and stains get a pre-conditioner and dwell time so the extraction step does the heavy lifting instead of scrubbing.
-
03
Hot-water extraction
Truck-mounted equipment rinses and extracts at a temperature and vacuum a portable unit cannot reach. The dirty water leaves with us.
-
04
Condition, sanitize, protect
Every job finishes with a conditioner, a sanitizer and a protectant, and all three are included in the price. Most cleaners sell protectant as an upsell at the door; we don't. The only things we ever quote on top are specialty stain removal and pet treatment, and those are discussed before we start. Then we walk the job with you. We also leave you a spot out bottle for touch-ups, and we refill it free the next time we're out.

Reviews
What customers say about our carpet cleaning work.
“On time, professional, and if they say they can get the stain out — they MEAN IT! Miracle workers.”
“Call Langenwalter if you want your carpet cleaned the correct way. They also remove any and all stains.”
Indianapolis, IN
“I had a horrible experience with a sketchy carpet cleaner who advertises in those coupons you get in the mail. After researching reviews I found Langenwalter, and I'm glad I did! The same guy comes to my house every time. You know a company is doing something right when they have long-term, happy employees.”

Questions
Common questions
How long does carpet take to dry?
Plan on 12 to 24 hours. It is damp to the touch when we leave. Running your air conditioning or a fan speeds it up, and we recommend keeping furniture off cleaned areas until the carpet is completely dry.
Do you move furniture?
No. We don't move furniture, so please move anything you want cleaned under before we arrive, and keep it off the carpet until it's dry. We clean around whatever stays in place.
Is hot-water extraction the same as steam cleaning?
Yes. It is the name the industry uses for the method most people call steam cleaning. It is the method carpet manufacturers specify in their warranties and the one the IICRC and the Carpet and Rug Institute recommend.
What if a spot comes back?
If the carpet looked clean when we left and a spot reappears as it dries, that is wicking: the stain has travelled back up from deeper in the carpet to the tips of the fibers. That is exactly what the spot out bottle is for, and it usually takes care of it. If it does not, what happens next depends on what was done. Spots covered by specialty stain removal are guaranteed for 30 days and we come back at no charge. Either way, call the office.
How often should carpet be cleaned?
Every 12 to 18 months, and more often with pets, kids or allergies.
Is protectant extra?
No. Conditioner, sanitizer and protectant are part of every carpet cleaning at no added cost. The only things we ever quote on top are specialty stain removal and pet treatment.
