How we do it

Upholstery, the way the fiber calls for.

Your furniture collects as much dirt as your flooring, if not more. Food and drink, skin oils, pet hair, allergens and ordinary dust all settle into the fibers. You might not see it, but there is a lot more than your family sitting on that sofa.

Upholstery takes body oils and daily contact that carpet never sees, and fabrics vary far more than carpet does. We check the manufacturer's cleaning code, test for colorfastness, then clean with the right amount of moisture and the right tool for the seams and cushions.

Fabric protector is available after cleaning to make the next spill easier to deal with.

Step by step

What happens on the visit.

  1. 01

    Fabric code and colorfast test

We read the manufacturer's code and test an inconspicuous spot so the method matches the fabric.

  2. 02

    Pre-treatment

Arms, headrests and cushion tops get the most contact, so they get the most attention before cleaning.

  3. 03

    Clean

Low-moisture or hot-water extraction, depending on the fabric.

  4. 04

    Dry and protect

Fabric dries in a few hours. Optional protector helps spills bead up instead of soaking in. We also leave you a spot out bottle for touch-ups, and we refill it free the next time we're out.

Reviews

What customers say about our upholstery work.

★★★★★
“I had a horrible experience with a sketchy carpet cleaner who advertises in those coupons you get in the mail. After researching reviews I found Langenwalter, and I'm glad I did! The same guy comes to my house every time. You know a company is doing something right when they have long-term, happy employees.”

Questions

Common questions

How long does upholstery take to dry?

Usually two to six hours depending on the fabric and the method. We use the least moisture the fabric allows, and a fan or air conditioning speeds it up.

What about microfiber?

Microfiber cleans up very well, but it needs the right method to avoid water marks. The fabric code check is how we decide.

Is it worth cleaning an older sofa?

Almost always, if the fabric is intact. Cleaning costs a fraction of replacement and removes the dirt, allergens and odors that make furniture feel old.
